Paintings and Field Studies: examples of plein air paintings. 

My intent on location varies.

When I am researching and learning about a new area, I make drawings, value and color studies.

Often I work on location for days (or years) as I develop an understanding and connection. Whatever it takes to learn about the color, light and capture the essence of a location. 

Once I know what it is I want to say and how I want to compose my idea, I am ready to work with the intent of creating a painting on location or in the studio.
